Tonight’s GOP Debate Proudly Sponsored By… Are You Kidding Me?
Tonight’s GOP Republican Party/Tea Party debate, in which the remaining four candidates will “debate” each other on issues ranging from the economy to marriage equality, will be sponsored by a cornucopia of anti-gay, pro-“traditional” family, and pro-gun groups. And perhaps that should come as no surprise. It is, after all, the Republican debate. So, seeing NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, the NRA — National Rifle Association — Freedom Works, a major Tea Party group, and Citizens United, the folks who brought unfettered cash into politics, in the “sponsored by” category may not be surprising, but wait, there’s more.
What should come as a surprise is that the debate is also being sponsored by — and that means, paid for by — Google, Twitter, and Facebook, and that should have some progressives a little peeved.
If corporations are people, and money is speech, isn’t supporting a GOP debate tantamount to supporting the candidates?
After all, we’re down to four Republican candidates, and supporting a debate, especially at this point, means supporting these candidates, in some way, shape, or form.
And let’s look at the candidates.
There’s the anti-gay flip-flopping, money in the Caymens Mitt Romney, the anti-gay, racist Ron Paul, the anti-gay, anti-contraception Rick Santorum, and the anti-gay, anti-abortion, anti-contraception, pro-multiple-marriages-while-you’re-having-affairs-and prosecuting-the-impeacment-of-the -President Newt Gingrich.
Homophobes, racists, and adulterers.
Just what this country needs to lead the so-called “family values” party, and, America.
Thanks, Google, Facebook, and Twitter.
