Todd Akin To Voters: If You Want My Attention ‘Write Me A Decent Check’

Todd Akin, who has lost support from all but the most extreme, radical right wing politicos, told a voter that the best way to get his attention is, “write me a decent check.” The video, filmed in May, is merely indicative of the kind of “public servant” Akin truly is. As a U.S. Congressman, Akin was largely unknown until last month, when he told a Fox News affiliate that women rarely get pregnant from “legitimate” rape, because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Think Progress reported that Congressman Akin was asked what he best way to contact a Congressman was. Akin’s blunt response:

AKIN: I’m in a three-way primary for the US Senate. I’ve gone to people and asked for their support, their help, or their endorsement, and some people say yes. They write me a decent check. I remember that. The people that I thought were friends that tell me to go away because they are supporting someone else, I remember that. You know, I can remember back to 12 years ago. You remember who’s helping you. That’s one way that people get to know congressmen and senators.

Akin is now running for the Senate seat of Democrat Claire McCaskill. Less than one point separates the two candidates, according to PollTracker averages.
