Maybe They’re Just Doing Their Job?

Mark Cady, the Supreme Court Justice who wrote Friday’s unanimous landmark ruling legalizing gay marriage in Iowa, was appointed in 1998 by four-term Republican Governor Terry Branstad. Richard N. Weicker, Jr., an Independent governor who was a former Republican U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator and Republican Presidential candidate. Massachusetts Supreme Court Chief Justice Margaret Marshall  was appointed in 1996 by Republican Governor William F. Weld.
