Thanks To Christine O’Donnell, Now, EVERY G.O.P. Senate Candidate Denies Global Warming

Just yesterday morning, we published, “Every GOP Senate Candidate — Except One — Denies Climate Change.” Today, with Christine O’Donnell winning the Delaware GOP Senate race, booting the only GOP candidate who supported the science of climate change, EVERY single GOP candidate for U.S. Senate denies climate change, global warming, climate science, etc.

That’s right. Climate change, climate science, global warming — whatever you call it, every single one of the four-dozen plus GOP candidates running for the U.S. Senate this year, except Rep. Mike Castle of Delaware, are against the concept and any policy to intervene.

Even George W. Bush’s GOP administration supported the concept of climate change. In 2007, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said the US was “a major emitter” and was not “above the international community on the issue.”

She also said that “all nations should tackle” the “growing problem” of climate change.

In, “The 21st Century Know Nothing Party,” Little Green Football’s Charles Johnson writes, “What an incredibly sad picture of the Republican Party this paints. I’d like to see a similar survey of Republicans who favor teaching creationism as science, because I’ll bet it’s just as pervasive. The GOP has become the Know Nothing Party of the 21st century.”

Think Progress’ awesome blog, “The Wonk Room,” has a comprehensive review of all the Senate candidates with their specific statements and opinions on climate science.

They write,

“In May, 2010, the National Academies of Science reported to Congress that “the U.S. should act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and develop a national strategy to adapt to the inevitable impacts of climate change” because global warming is “caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for — and in many cases is already affecting — a broad range of human and natural systems.”

“Many of the Senate candidates are signatories of the Koch Industries’ Americans For Prosperity No Climate Tax pledge and the FreedomWorks Contract From America. The second plank of the Contract From America is to “Reject Cap & Trade: Stop costly new regulations that would increase unemployment, raise consumer prices, and weaken the nation’s global competitiveness with virtually no impact on global temperatures.”

Big surprise.
