Ted Nugent Attacks The NBA, Gays, And America Over Kobe’s $100,000 Fine

Ted Nugent, the rock star known for songs like “Cat Scratch Fever,” his extreme right-wing views, and for attacking Democratic politicians, Tuesday night in an op-ed in the Washington Times attacked the NBA for fining Lakers’ star Kobe Bryant $100,000 for his use of an anti-gay slur, the gay community, and America.

“Those of us addicted to common sense and logic think that fining Mr. Bryant $100,000 for calling a referee a name is much more ugly, vile and demeaning than anything Mr. Bryant uttered or could possibly have uttered,” the 62-year old Ted Nugent wrote. “The politically correct brain-dead can’t seem to remember the ending for ‘Sticks and Stones.'”

Claiming the term “fucking fag” — which Kobe Bryant admitted uttering one week ago today — is “what the NBA thinks is a derogatory, ugly and vile name,” Nugent adds that he believes that “homosexuals [are] the most protected class of people in America.”

“Homosexuals are a protected class in America,” Nugent repeats, adding, “If you think what happened to Mr. Bryant was a travesty, just wait until you see what homosexuals in the military do when they claim they have been mistreated because of their sexual orientation.”

“If the NBA had any true gay convictions, the NBA should host a Homosexual Night. During halftime, the homosexuals could come down on the court, hold hands and prance around the court to music by the Village People. The NBA could then give each homosexual a pink basketball as a symbol of solidarity.”

Ted Nugent, who once said, “Obama’s a piece of shit, and I told him to suck on my machine gun,” goes on to claim that, “If you think what happened to Mr. Bryant was a travesty, just wait until you see what homosexuals in the military do when they claim they have been mistreated because of their sexual orientation.”

(It should be noted that even when “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is officially repealed, there will be no specific sexual harassment protections for LGBTQ service members in the military.)

Nugent, a twice-married Christian who has had eight children (three out of wedlock,) and a “gun rights” extremist, has reportedly suggested that the second amendment is the only gun license or carry permit any law abiding citizen should need.

“If the NBA had any true gay convictions, the NBA should host a Homosexual Night,” Nugent writes, in what is perhaps the most stereotypically-offensive portion of his Washington Times screed. “During halftime, the homosexuals could come down on the court, hold hands and prance around the court to music by the Village People. The NBA could then give each homosexual a pink basketball as a symbol of solidarity.”

“Wouldn’t it be refreshing if Mr. Bryant threatened to resign from the NBA over this?,” Nugent suggests, despite the fact that Bryant has apologized and even called the president of the largest LGBT organization in America personally.

“The amount of money the NBA would lose without Kobe Bryant helping to pack the stands would be staggering compared with the politically correct $100,000 fine levied on him. Mr. Bryant threatening to quit wouldn’t make the NBA very gay. I got 20 bucks that says the NBA would toss homosexuals under the bus and fold like a cheap suit to keep Mr. Bryant in the NBA.”

Ted Nugent, who serves on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association (NRA), has sold more than 30 million albums, and has performed in thousands of shows on tour, must be worth a tidy sum. Pity he believes his own diatribe is worth only $20. Perhaps he should emulate Kobe Bryant, put his money where his mouth is, and pony up $100,000 for the bet.
