Teacher Who Called Homosexuality “Sin” That “Breeds Like Cancer” About To Be Fired?
Viki Knox, the New Jersey special ed teacher who was caught in a lengthy Facebook conversation calling homosexuality a “sin” that “breeds like cancer” may be about to get fired. The Union Township, New Jersey school district is paving the way to remove Knox from their employment. Given that she is a 20+ year veteran, the district is filing tenure charges against her, the first step in the process that may be both costly and timely.
“The board formally filed the charges against Knox in late December, a step that begins the lengthy and costly process to fire Knox, school board president Ray Perkins said,” reports NJ.com.
“Every student, no matter what race, creed color or sexual orientation ought to be able to come to school and feel comfortable in a learning environment that’s welcoming and nurturing,” Perkins said.
Knox last year received a great deal of attention, and for a while was the right’s poster child — along with Jerry Buell — for what they term “free speech,” which, in many other countries would be categorized as hate speech and would cost the violators jail time.
The image, above, of a bulletin board display honoring LGBT month, is what initially set Knox off, along with her apparent issue with a lesbian mentioning her wife.
Some of Viki Knox’s comments have been widely publicized, like, homosexuality is “a perverted spirit that has existed from the beginning of creation,†and a “sin†that “breeds like cancer,†and, “Union is not South Orange/Maplewood where one out of four families consist of two Mommies or daddies … Why parade your unnatural immoral behaviors before the rest of us?,†and, “I/we do not have to accept anything, anyone, any behavior or any choices! I do not have to tolerate anything others wish to do.â€
Regular tNCRM readers will remember the bulk of Viki Knox’s ugly diatribe. For those who wish to refresh their memories, here is the entire Facebook conversation, and background, captured before it was deleted.
As The New Civil Rights Movement writer Scott Rose reported at the time, Knox had to have gone through extensive anti-bullying training conducted by a mental health professional, and others have noted the school, like many, has regulations about the use of social media.
