Supreme Court Will ‘Impose Gay Marriage In All Fifty States’ Warns Maggie Gallagher
Having never worried about public perception, Maggie Gallagher is not, for the most part, a flip-flopper. But the 53-year old former journalist, former president and former chair of NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, and former head of the apparently defunct Culture War Victory Fund now is admitting one-hundred percent defeat.
“I believe the Supreme Court is going to impose gay marriage in all fifty states within the next two years,” the Roman Catholic, who still blogs at the National Review, told Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) News Nightly’s Colleen Carroll Campbell last week. “I think the battle is going to shift to religious liberty,” Gallagher adds.
Of course she does, because that’s where, economically, she’s planted herself now, having lost the same-sex marriage war. Gallagher is now a fellow at American Principles in Action, a low-funded political action committee.
But who’s Gallagher’s new boss at APIA? According to CREW (PDF) her old boss: Robert P. George who co-founded NOM with Gallagher. (Surprise!)
Gallagher blames the country’s embrace of same-sex marriage on “Republican elites that decided they would never talk about the issue.” Apparently, every Republican candidate for president has just gotten downgraded.
Gallagher calls those who support same-sex marriage “the mushy middle.”
The 30-minute program is chock-full of interesting right-wing paranoia and propaganda, but that one particular quote is making the rounds.
Jeremy Hooper of Good As You concludes that potential donors hold “stop giving to the National Org. For Marriage,” as the “fight is all but fruitless. NOM’s co-founder has pretty much admitted it.”
The video below includes appearances from Congressmen Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and Tim Huelskamp (R-KS), and Michael Warren, of The Weekly Standard.
The video is cued up to start about a minute before Gallagher’s admission of defeat.
