Sarah Palin just announced she wil not seek another term as Governor of Alaska, and in fact will resign her office on the day of the Governor’s Picnic, July 25, 2009: little more than two and a half years into her first – and, evidently, only – term. Palin refused to explain what she will do next, although she left many hints in her very long press conference this afternoon.
Palin, the darling of Conservatives, has come out against gay marriage, saying,
“One of my absolute best friends for the last 30 years happens to be gay, and I love her dearly,” Palin said. “She is one of my best friends, who happens to have made a choice that isn’ta choice I would have made. But I am not going to judge…”
Rumors and speculation are flying about the Internet as to why Palin has resigned and what she will set her sights on next. Some claim she is out of politics for good. Many doubt that is possible.One thing’s for sure – in politics or out, Sarah Palin will be grabbing headlines for quite some time, you betcha’!
Hopefully, this is one step in the right direction for the GOP. With Palin out, perhaps they can focus on more responsible representation.
In her “speech,” which was really just top-of-mind remarks, Palin, in talking about her reasons for resigning, made sure to go back and mention she prayed about it.

In the end, I think, the one thing to say is that the Republican party is in such a total state of collapse and incoherence that it actually believed she could be a future president; and that John McCain was so reckless, so cynical and so cavalier that he was prepared to rest the national security of this country on her shoulders if he, in his seventies, were to become unable to fulfill his duties or die. In some ways, this is a moment to reflect on McCain, and his irresponsibility, not Palin and her drama.
