Today in New Hampshire, ahead of tomorrow’s GOP presidential primary, Rick Santorum continued to bash gays, falsely stating, “President Obama says he has the same position I have on gay marriage.” Clearly there are strong differences, and Santorum has shown no signs of “evolving.”
Santorum also appeared to call same-sex marriage a “social pathology,” likening it to unemployment that leads to poverty.

Santorum then went on a diatribe of false equivalencies, claiming that gay marriage disrupts families, adding, “Marriage is important for children to have strong families and as the foundation of our community. It’s essential for the economy. If we don’t have strong families, you can’t really have a strong economy over the long-term.”
Santorum’s argument is that only families headed by moms and dads actually strengthen the economy. Apparently, in Rick Santorum’s twisted and ignorant mind, same-sex parents don’t buy food, houses, cars, clothing, medical insurance, tuition for private schools, computers, or any one of a number of items purchased by straight-parents for their children.
The argument is ludicrous.
Michael K. Lavers, National News Editor at Edge On The Net, was in New Hampshire today and took the video below. He writes,
Santorum told EDGE following the Republican presidential debate in Manchester on Jan. 6 that “obviously folks disagree” with his position on the issue. Both he and Romney stated their opposition to marriage equality during a second debate in Concord on Jan. 7.
“I always find it interesting when people say that’s an extreme position,” said Santorum. “Marriage between a man and a woman is now an extreme position? I don’t think so.”
Actually, it is. The majority of Americans support same-sex marriage as well.
Santorum, again, however, in New Hampshire, which has same-sex marriage and a strong support for it, has now couched his argument agains t marriage equality as a legal issue, when for decades he has made it a religious and moral one. Apparently, he knows people in the “Live free or die” state don’t countenance religious bigotry.
Later, Santorum claimed that treating all “lifestyles” equally was “imposing mortality.”
