Rick Santorum is so anti-gay and homophobic today at a campaign stop in a Wisconsin bowling alley he told an unidentified young man, “Friends don’t let friends use pink balls.”
“You’re not gonna use the pink ball. We’re not gonna let you do that. Not on camera,†Santorum said, according to Reuters reporter Sam Youngman who tweeted the news.

Santorum has been out of the news in the past week, with front-runner Mitt Romney taking most of the media attention — and criticism, especially for his comments on Russia.
“The Human Rights Campaign, the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender advocacy group in the country, blasted Santorum for his comment,” Eric W. Dolan at The Raw Story reported:
“This is another example of Rick Santorum intentionally making ignorant statements that have a real impact on LGBT people,†said HRC Vice President of Communications Fred Sainz. “Whether he’s comparing our marriages to inanimate objects, saying our children would be better off with a parent in prison as opposed to two loving same-sex parents, or calling open military service a ‘tragic social experiment;’ he’s proven that he thinks LGBT people are second-class citizens not worthy of dignity or respect.
“In this case, he’s advancing tired gender norms by implying a boy should be ashamed or embarrassed to use a certain color bowling ball.â€

But Santorum might want to be careful: Romney, though he’s consistently ignored these sorts of challenges, is a bit of a bowler himself. Two years ago, Romney held a bowling fundraiser at Lucky Strike Lanes in D.C. There are photos, on an unofficial Romney Facebook page, of him wearing a bright-blue bowling shirt over his crisp white dress shirt and jeans. And on his very first throw, according news accounts at the time, Romney bowled a strike.
Reuters reporter Sam Youngman also noted via Twitter, “Read into it what you will: After three spares in a row, Santorum finished bowling with one pin left standing.”
Ginger Gibson, who tweeted the photo, above, today, noted, “Rick Santorum goes bowling. Says “Dang it” when he misses a spare.”
Wonder what he’ll say when he misses the GOP nomination?
