Same-Sex Marriage: NOM Touts Fox News Poll That Shows Huge Increase In Support

NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, today is touting a new Fox News poll that actually shows a tremendous increase in support of same-sex marriage since just a few months ago.

While practically every major nationwide poll over the past three years has shown majority support for marriage equality, Fox News is using a polling firm that literally days before the November election that President Obama won 51% to 47% returned a 46% to 46% even split:

Fox News Poll: Race for the White House a dead heat

Regardless that the Fox News poll may or may not be accurate — even if it shows far less support for equality than most or all major pollsters do — the Fox News poll, conducted by Anderson Robbins Research (D) / Shaw & Company Research (R), shows an even split on marriage: 46% support equality, 46% do not.

NOM doesn’t even bother to link to the poll, perhaps because they know once people see the numbers their fancy headline of “New National Poll: Majority of Tea Party, Majority of GOP, 1/3rd of Democrats Support Marriage!” will mean little.

So if we accept the possibly suspect findings of the Fox News poll, we also have to accept their previous results.

The poll was conducted February 25-27, and, again, showed a 46% even split.

The previous Anderson/Shaw poll, conducted in October — just four months prior — found overall support at 41%, and overall opposition at 44%.

So, if you believe the Fox News poll, in four months five percent of the U.S. population has decided to support marriage equality.

Wow.
