NOM, the National Organization for Marriage, headed by Maggie Gallagher, just released a Spanish-language attack ad featuring homophobic New York state Senator and Reverend Rubén DÃaz. The ad, part of a $1.5 million investment NOM is making in the Empire State, claims that “traditional marriage is under attack,” yet fails to explain by whom or how. DÃaz’s ethics and integrity are considered troubling by some, given his close personal relationship with former state Senator Monserrate, convicted of an assault on his girlfriend, involving a broken drinking glass.
There is no record of any bill or that aims to disenfranchise heterosexual couples from marrying, nor is there any bill or law that prevents them from marrying, nor is there any bill or law that has placed an expiration date on so-called “traditional” marriage.

Yet Maggie Gallagher’s NOM has released yet another false and misleading hate-mongering fear-inducing attack ad that infiltrates the homes of New York families.
Additional, for his part, New York state Senator and Reverend Rubén DÃaz, who was irate when New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo announced support for same-sex marriage during holy week, has no problem using one of the most important days to New York’s LGBT community and our allies, AIDS Walk NY, to divide communities by holding an anti-gay marriage rally on the very day that more than 45,000 New Yorkers — including representatives from small business and large corporations, individuals, and families of every composition will get together to mourn for loved ones lost to HIV/AIDS, and to celebrate hope for the future, while raising an estimated $1.5 million or more.
Senator DÃaz and NOM aren’t interested in family, they’re interested in proselytizing hate.
New Yorkers should remember that New York state Senator and Reverend Rubén DÃaz has a long personal relationship with Hiram Monserrate, and even claimed he would officiate at his wedding. Monserrate is the expelled New York State Senator who was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend with a broken glass.
DÃaz was one of only eight Senators who voted 53-8 against expelling the convicted Monserrate, who last year also was indicted on federal corruption charges.
Once again, NOM is partnering with unsavory characters devoid of moral fiber, just like they did when they posted a video of an anti-marriage equality group tied to an international religious neo-fascist para-military cult accused of assassination plot on the Pope and Reagan. I kid you not.
