Oh, And Senator Diaz Has TWO Gay Brothers
Whew! It’s been one of those days. Let’s recap, shall we?
Well, first, Mark “South Carolina is so gay – NOT†Sanford got caught coming home from Argentina, caught in the airport by a news crew, and admitted to having an affair with a married woman who has two kids. Sanford last year refused to pay for his state’s tourism board ad campaign titled, “South Carolina is so gay.” Sanford has voted to ban same-sex adoptions in D.C., says marriage is between a man and a woman only. And he thinks for state employment, race, ethnicity, and/or gender can be taken into account in decisions by state agencies.
Sanford’s political career is most likely over. He may end up resigning the Governorship as it is. He immediately resigned his Chairmanship of the Republican Governors Association. Yes, yet another Republican sex-scandal. Terribly sad, but one has to ask, why Republicans more often than Democrats? And now, via Chris Geidner’s Law Dork 2.0, we find out that “Sanford Traveled to Argentina on Taxpayer Money.” Oh, and before I forget, Sanford was supposed to guest speak at the Values Voters Summit. They removed his photo within minutes of his announcement.
Sanford, it should also be noted, was a Newt Gingrich protégé.
I guess we can all agree that, “Haggard ‘ex-prostitute’: Sanford was in Colorado with me” is, well, false.
I have to say this: If You Can’t Stick To Your Own Marriage Vows, You Have No Say On Mine.
End sex-scandal press conference. Breathe, turn on New York State Senate. Be amazed they actually open session. For a few minutes.
In all of five minutes or less, the New York Senate opened for business, went through the motions of a moment of silence “in the absence of clergy,” then came up wih some Legislative procedure – no lie – written by then-New York Senator Martin Van Buren. Yes, Martin Van Buren, the eighth president of the United States, Martin Van Buren who was a New York State Senator from 1812 – 1820. Bottom line, they claim the Governor had to call a special session of the entire state legislature for them to vote on bills. So, all yesterday’s passed bills are, well, not. And no vote on the gay marriage bill.
Tonight, we learn, the Governor said he is trying to withhold the Senators’ pay. (Good for him!)
So, yesterday, Senator Ruben Diaz, yes, ordained minister, Senator Ruben Diaz, threatened several things if the gay marriage bill came to the floor – including that tomorrow wouldn’t come. Well, you’re reading this today, so guess what…
But that very same Senator Diaz, New York Magazine reports, has two – count ’em, TWO gay brothers! AND he loves Liza. Well blow me down! In response to gays, Diaz says, “I’m not homophobic. I have a problem with gay marriage. I have no problem with gays.” Yeah, right.
Last piece of New York news – best for last: A majority of New Yorkers support marriage equality!
In other news, Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd supports gay marriage.
