Iowa voters yesterday received a robocall stating that “homosexual marriage obviously involves homosexual sex,” in an effort to attack the Democratic nominee for state senate, Liz Mathis. The senate race is for a seat resigned by the incumbent. Local Iowa news station KGAN reports that voters are furious about the robocall, which also gives Mathis’ telephone number and says they should “call her and ask what homosexual sex acts she endorses.” The Republican challenger is Cindy Golding, whose campaign denies any association with the anti-gay attack.
Groups like NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, and Bob Vander Plaats’ Family Leader have been working in Iowa ever since the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that state’s ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional, though it’s entirely unclear who created or paid for the attack.

A truly nasty last ditch effort in the Iowa state senate race that the National Organization For Marriage has been trying to make all about same-sex marriage for over a month now. With election day upon us, a group calling itself “Citizens for Honesty and Sound Marriage” is robocalling 18th District voters, attacking Liz Mathis for her support of not only marriage equality but also gay people themselves.
