RNC Official Who Calls Gays ‘Filthy’ Continues His Lie-Filled Assault on LGBT People

Dave Agema, a Michigan state GOP official who last week sparked a firestorm after posting an article to Facebook that claimed gay people are responsible for half the urban murders committed and called them “filthy,” not only is refusing to resign, he is continuing his lying assault on LGBT people and standing by his previous anti-gay comments.

Last night, Dave Weigel of Slate reported that Agema posted a comment to Facebook that claimed:

“The real issue is, the homosexual community is pushing same-sex marriage which will be taught in schools as an alternative lifestyle.”

In “Michigan RNC Member Has ‘Reams of Studies’ on How the Gay Lifestyle Will Hurt You,” Weigel reports:

That earned a response from Brad Fingeroot, a Republican activist in Oakland County. “Let’s keep the smut on the sidelines,” wrote Fingeroot. Agema responded:

At the center of this issue is a decades-old lie, “Everyone Should Know These Statistics On Homosexuals,” purportedly written by Frank Joseph, MD, (whom apparently does not exist) which is filled with lies, twisted truths, and ancient history.

Sadly, this “article,” republished on the Internet and distributed via email and social media countless times over the decades, includes the followig false statements:

“One study reports 70% of homosexuals admitting to having sex only one time with over 50% of their partners,” the article claims — pointing to a discredited study published 35 years ago in 1978 by Alan P. Bell and Martin S. Weinberg.

“25-33% of homosexuals and lesbians are alcoholics,” which supposedly comes from the Medical Journal of Homosexuality — which does not exist.

“50% of suicides can be attributed to homosexuals,” the article claims, pointing to “proof” by: “Kaifetz, J. “Homosexual Rights Are Concern for Some,” Post-Tribune, 18 December 1992.”

The “article” is written in twisted fashion to sound legitimate, pointing to fake, fraudulent, false, or inappropriate sources that have been debunked tome and time again, but Dave Agema isn’t interested in truth — Dave Agema is interested in being a malicious merchant of lies and hate.

Fortunately, Dave Agema has been unmasked. The good news here?

Dave Agema’s pushing of lies has exposed the radical right wing’s lies — including similar ones Agema also posted to his Facebook page from the certified anti-gay hate group Family Research Council – to many, many people who might have believed them.
