Over the past few days, residents from 22 states have filed separate petitions asking President Obama to allow them to secede from the U.S. Each petition, filed via the White House’s “We The People” petition site, requires a response from the executive branch if it receives 25,000 signatures within 30 days.
Clearly, this is a co-ordinated effort, as the titles of all petitions are the same, with the exception of the name of their state.
From Alabama to Arkansas to Louisiana to Texas, the petitions ask, “Peacefully grant the State of _____ to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.”

The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.

Most of the petitions are from so-called “red” states, and, as you can imagine, totally ignore the fact that the receive more federal dollars than they pay.
Republicans and conservatives continue to claim they are so good at balancing budgets, which they do on the backs of their poor, but they ignore that their “success” is thanks to blue states that subsidize them.
“As unilateral secession was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, it remains to be seen if this movement is more than a toothless temper tantrum thrown by armchair revolutionaries,” Gawker notes.
