Religious Right Film Opposing Marriage Equality Equates Gays With Jerry Sandusky

A new religious right film in production, “The Criminalization Of Christianity,” uses clips of convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky to equate gay people and same-sex marriage with pedophilia. The preview video, below, also specifically states that gay people and same-sex marriage threaten marriage, children, freedom, business, and Christianity.

“There is something threatening marriage, threatening our children, threatening business, threatening our freedom,” the video’s graphics state. “If homosexual activists achieve their goal, it will be the criminalization of Christianity. Time and freedom are running out. Help us warn the Church.”

(We’re pretty sure that the Church “knows,” since Pope Benedict XVI declared an international holy war on same-sex marriage.)

The film, written by Faith 2 Action’s Janet Porter, also features a screenshot of an article from 1987, titled, “Homosexual Manifesto,” by Michael Swift, that was satire. Even Fordham University, a Jesuit University in New York, debunked the claims by the religious right that the article — which, when published by the anti-gay right, always omits the first sentence indicating its purpose.

“The trailer’s credits say the film was written, of course, by F2A president Janet Porter, the author of The Criminalization of Christianity who in 2009 predicted that the Shepard-Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act would ‘send pastors to prison,’” Right Wing Watch’s Brian Tashman writes:

But they are still looking for an executive producer and a costume designer, so dust off those résumés!

It’s clear that “time is running out” fort the anti-gay religious right. These antics and last-gasp attempts to silence LGBT people and our allies — which include more than half the country — are a desperate attempt to pad their bank accounts for as long as they can.

It hasn’t worked in decades, and it certainly won’t work now.

The anti-gay religious right is and always has been morally bankrupt. The good news now is they will become financially bankrupt as well.

Janet Porter did not immediately respond to an email requesting comment.

UPDATE: Activist and author Waymon Hudson, all the way back in 2008 noted Porter’s obsession with “”The Criminalization Of Christianity.”
