The 64th Annual Emmy Awards pulled out a real-life “Game Change,” with “Game Of Thrones” and Homeland beating favorites “Mad Men” and “Downton Abbey.” “Game Change” “Modern Family,” and “Homeland” won four Emmys each at Sunday night’s Primetime Emmy Awards show. In a shocking reversal, “Mad Men” left the theatre empty handed Sunday, and “Downton Abbey” walked away with only one award.
“Homeland” won Outstanding Drama Series, “Game Change” won Outstanding Miniseries or Movie, and “Modern Family” won Outstanding Comedy Series.
Other highlights include Kevin Costner’s win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for “Hatfields & McCoys,” Julianne Moore’s win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in “Game Change,” and Damian Lewis’s win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for “Homeland.”
Eric Stonestreet (image, above,) won Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series for “Modern Family,” and delivered a humorous and touching tribute.
‘‘I wouldn’t be standing here without Jesse Tyler Ferguson, there is no Cam without Mitch,’’ said Stonestreet, who is straight but plays a gay man, Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s character’s partner. ‘‘We get the awesome opportunity to play these two characters on TV and show America and the world what a loving couple we can be just like everybody else.” He then added, ‘‘I never knew I’d be on TV as a gay man, but I love the pictures of hairy chests you guys are sending me, it’s really amazing. Thank you for those.’’
