Read: Human Rights Groups Ask Paul Ryan To Not Attend Hate Group Conference

Seven human rights groups, including GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), have sent a letter to Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, and other top politicos, asking them to not attend the Values Voters Summit, which begins Friday and is sponsored by anti-gay hate groups. The letter, below, urges invited politicians to “not to lend the prestige of your office to the summit.” On the Family Research Council and the American Family Association, the letter states, “the Family Research Council (FRC), has consistently spread demonizing lies about the LGBT community, and one of its co-sponsors, the American Family Association (AFA), has linked homosexuality to the Holocaust.”

The letter, sent jointly by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Faithful America, GLAAD, HRC, National Black Justice Coalition, National Council of La Raza, and the People For The American Way Foundation, represents the efforts of a growing trend of like-minded activist organizations working toward common goals.

Calling the Family Research Council “far outside of the mainstream,” the letter notes “FRC has “engaged in repeated, groundless demonization — portraying LGBT people as sick, vile, incestuous, violent, perverted, and a danger to the nation.”

The Values Voters Summit, held annually, this year, as usual, includes representatives from some of the most radical, religious right organizations in America, the conservative news media, and their elected official allies.

The invited attendees list reads like a who’s who of anti-gay bigotry and the war on women, and includes, among others:

Rep. Michele Bachmann, Gary Bauer, Glenn Beck, Governor Jan Brewer, Kirk Cameron, Rep. Eric Cantor, Ken Cuccinelli, Frank Gaffney, Senator Jim DeMint, Mike Huckabee, Laura Ingraham, Bishop Harry Jackson, Rep. Steve King, Governor Bob McDonnell, Star parker, Senator Rand Paul, Dennis Prager, Mitt Romney, Lila Rose, Rep. Paul Ryan, Rick Santorum, Mat Staver, and Tim Wildmon.

We’ll have more later, but for now, here’s the letter.
