Tea Party Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) today told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the attack on Benghazi, which left four Americans dead, was “the worst tragedy since 9/11,” the 2001 attacks against America, including both World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, which resulted in 1,836 deaths.
Calling Clinton’s performance during Benghazi “inexcusable,” Paul stated, if he had been president, he would have fired her.
With the utmost respect to U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and the three other Americans who lost their lives, while every life is scared and unique, Senator Paul apparently believes that the Benghazi attack was worse than the Newtown, Connecticut massacre that took the lives of twenty first grade children and six adults, the Aurora, Colorado shooting that took the lives of 12 people and wounded 58 others, Hurricane Katrina which took the lives of 1,836 people. The list is long, far too long, and while the Benghazi attack is a U.S. tragedy, it hardly can be elevated to these tragedies.
Senator Paul, in a scripted statement, told Secretary of State Clinton that her stepping down indicates that she accepts “the culpability for the worst tragedy since 9/11.” Secretary Clinton announced very publicly more than a year ago she would be resigning at the end of President Obama’s first term.
Senator Paul has stated he is considering a run for President in 2016.
