Quote Of The Day: NAACP’s Julian Bond Speaks On NOM’s Race-Baiting

Julian Bond, the esteemed former head and now Chairman Emeritus of the NAACP, who has time and again come out in support of same-sex marriage equality, weighed in today on the heinous race-baiting strategies revealed in unsealed confidential court documents originally submitted by NOM, the National Organization For Marriage.

The documents reveal NOM’s plan to “win marriage” by dividing and conquering, and, race-baiting.

“NOM’s underhanded attempts to divide will not succeed if Black Americans remember their own history of discrimination,” said Julian Bond. “Pitting bigotry’s victims against other victims is reprehensible; the defenders of justice must stand together.”

Horace Julian Bond (born January 14, 1940), known as Julian Bond, is an American social activist and leader in the American civil rights movement, politician, professor, and writer. While a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, during the early 1960s, he helped found the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). He was the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center. Bond was elected to four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives and later to six terms in the Georgia Senate, serving a combined total of 20 years. He was chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) from 1998 to 2010.
