Pray Away The Gay Leader: It’s Impossible To Go From Gay To Straight

John Smid, one of the most important leaders within the so-called “ex-gay” or “reparative therapy” movement — known as “pray away the gay” — finally admitted after 30 years, that conversion therapy is a crock, and that it is, indeed, impossible to change one’s sexual orientation. Smid, appearing on Chris Matthews’ “Hardball,” said, “there’s an intrinsic homosexuality that, I haven’t seen many people who have seen an orientation change.”

Smid says, “predominantly, I’m attracted to men.”

Michelle Goldberg of The Daily Beast adds that the country is moving faster toward acceptance of the LGBT community.

Smid says the government should be involved in the issue of marriage. “I think two gay people should have there same rights as two straight people, because that should not be a Christian decision by the government.”

Matthews reminded us of Marcus Bachmann’s infamous “gays are barbarians” comment.

Smid said Bachmann’s comments were “horrific,” and “an amazing denial of human experience.”

Goldberg points to Rick Perry and Herman Cain as believing that gays can be “changed.”
