Popular MSNBC Contributor Target Of Racist’s Death Threat

Popular MSNBC and CNN contributor, author, and opinion writer Goldie Taylor has become the target of a racist’s death threat. Repeated attacks have been coming from the Twitter user who goes by the name of Americanist or True Americanist, under the Twitter handle of @breakobama. One of the more specific threats came on July 31, stating “I know where you work. Better watch over your shoulder. But you won’t know before it happens.” Americanist also tweeted yesterday, “November 5, 1973, my favorite day a Nigger died. Ask Goldie.” Taylor responded on Twitter that that was the day her father died.

Despite Twitter’s new policy allowing abusive threats to be reported easier, Taylor has said the social networking company, which is expected to post annual revenue of $1 billion next year, has done nothing to help. But finally, at about 11:20 AM today, the @breakobama account now comes up as suspended.

Taylor was one of the first journalists to demand an investigation into the shooting death of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. Americanist’s Twitter bio features an image of Zimmerman with the word “HERO.”

Before the account was suspended, The New Civil Rights Movement took screenshots of some of Americanist’s tweets. Here’s a sampling of the more recent ones:

Before the account was suspended, this is what Americanist’s bio on Twitter looked like:

Taylor has received a good deal of morale support on Twitter from her fans, and has been working with one in particular who says he has tracked down the real identity of Americanist.

Stay tuned.
