Photos: NYC’s Prop 8 Day Of Decision Protest Rally

National Protest Reminiscent Of Original Prop 8 Rallies

Thousands of gay rights activists and supporters, holding signs and marching to on-the-fly adopted slogans such as “Hey-hey, Ho-ho, Homophobia’s Got to Go!” and “Gay, Straight, Black, White, Marriage is a Civil Right,” swarmed Manhattan’s historically gay Sheridan Square area, in front of the famous Stonewall Inn, and walked in the rain to Union Square. Adults, children, and dogs braved the sub-normal temperatures to make a difference and show their support for California’s 18,000 gay couples and for all the residents of California who, after the Supreme Court decision was handed down yesterday, were told once again they can not marry a person of their own gender.

At the end of the march, the crowd overfilled Union Square, and listened to NYC City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, NYC Borough President Scott Stringer, and Corey Johnson, march organizer and activist, among other local and national public figures.
