Pelosi: ‘Anti-Government Ideologues’ Losses Will Make Being Minority Leader ‘Better’

Nancy Pelosi just completed a press conference announcing she will stay on as Minority Leader. Pelosi made a special note about Republican losses on Election Day, noting that Congress has lost some of the “anti-government ideologues” and that will make being Minority Leader “better” when it comes to bipartisanship.

Surrounded by women, the Democratic House Leader told reporters she will focus on increasing the role of women in politics and decreasing the role of money in politics.

“Changing the role of money in politics is really an important motivator for me.”

Pelosi says the House Democrats all told her, “Don’t even think of leaving.” She adds that she consulted with her family before finalizing her decision this morning.

Pelosi technically will have to be elected by the House Democrats, though she is running unopposed.

Congresswoman Pelosi has received a 100% rating from the HRC, and was one of the few in Congress to vote against the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). As a Catholic, Pelosi has said, “My religion compels me—and I love it for it—to be against discrimination of any kind in our country, and I consider [the ban on gay marriage] a form of discrimination. I think it’s unconstitutional on top of that.”
