Out October: Watch Kurt’s Dad Stand Up For Him On “Glee”

As you know, here at The New Civil Rights Movement we decided to stretch National Coming Out Day — which is today — into National Coming Out Month, with “The Out October Project,” a month-long celebration to “bring the realization into people’s lives that there are others out there. There is an army of us and we support you. We’ve gone through situations like you’re going through, even if the situation is a little different, we’ve been made to feel like that and some of us still do. But there is hope in numbers, there is strength in support.”

But to celebrate National Coming Out Day, today, October 11, which also happens to be Columbus Day, I thought it would be fun to post a video of a fun little scene from the hit television series “Glee.”

In this video, Burt Hummel, played by Mike O’Malley, stands up for his gay son, Kurt, played by Chris Colfer. The encouraging thing about this scene is Burt’s willingness to love his son for who he is. I believe the day will come when this is the norm.

EXTRA! While we can’t post the AWESOME video of Kurt coming out to his father and saying, “I’m gay,” you can watch it here!
