On 9/11, God Hates Fags Protests At Ground Zero (Photo)

On Sunday, September 11, “God Hates Fags” protested at the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at New York City’s Ground Zero World Trade Center Memorial. In a press release announcing their intention, God Hates Fags said Americans “continue to flip off God with all your caterwauling,” and called the rebuilding at Ground Zero “rebellious defiance.”

We will hold a picketing vigil outside your ceremony to remind you that there is a God, there is a standard, & there is a day of judgment coming on apace – yet you continue to flip off God with all your caterwauling. Not once have you taken a breath from your red-face squall to consider the idea that you were given a warning and maybe (just maybe) you should mourn for your sins and obey your God. God is sick of your words! You prop up EVERY evil person as a hero, no matter what they did in this life. It is shameful! “Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?” (Mal. 2:17).

God Hates Fags, aka the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), is a certified hate group whose middle name might as well be “Thank God for 9/11,” since that is a running theme written on their protest signs. Insisting “Norway must repent or perish,” God Hates Fags was recently in the news after claiming they would fly to Norway to picket the funerals of those murdered in Oslo on July 22 by Anders Behring Breivik. WBC also attended the National Organization For Marriage anti-gay hate rally in midtown Manhattan in July to protest same-sex marriage equality. God Hates Fags also protested Geraldine Ferraro’s funeral.

NYC-based comedian, actor, and political commentator, John Fugelsang – who sports a pretty impressive bio – took the photo above, and very generously allowed The New Civil Rights Movement to use it. Fugelsang, a frequent Bill Maher guest, told The New Civil Rights Movement that Sunday’s 9/11 protest “was vintage WBC – small, pathetic, largely ignored and dwarfed by the media filming them.”

There were no bystanders or passers-by – they were isolated and ignored.  They carried signs with disgusting slogans about FDNY, sang happy birthday to 9/11 (no lie) and generally did all they could to get anyone’s attention.

At this point the Westboro Baptist Church is becoming the LBGT community’s most unlikely ally, as their ever public appearance causes other homophobes such embarrassment they question their own bigotry.

They essentially exist to provoke lawsuits now, and to make all their money by suing under 1st amendment grounds.

When it was time for the anti-muslim rally to take over, the wbc people all quickly slipped their signs into black bags and slipped away – it was like they vaporized.  One minute they were screaming their anti-Christian inbred rapture junkie epithets & within moments they were slipping into the crowd, giggling to each other and scurrying off.

They served a valuable purpose at ground zero – a living, sneering reminder that the fundamentalists of all religions are the problem, and the rest of us suffer for their intolerance & general douchebaggery.

“Fundamentalists of all religions are the problem.” Indeed. I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Oh, and God Bless America.
