Olbermann Suspension Over, Returns This Week

Keith Olbermann, the famed MSNBC anchor and host of “Countdown With Keith Olbermann,” who was suspended over three political donations he made, will be returning to his show Tuesday night. MSNBC President Phil Griffin wrote, “After several days of deliberation and discussion, I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night’s program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy. We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night.”

Olbermann’s suspension rocked the liberal and progressive community, and drew over 300,000 signatures to a petition from Bold Progressives. It also drew the ire from the right, who claimed Olbermann lacked journalistic integrity, despite the fact that rival network Fox had itself donated over a million dollars to Republicans, and Fox hosts, including Sean Hannity, have donated large sums as well.

The only comment during his suspension came from Olbermann via Twitter:

Greetings From Exile! A quick, overwhelmed, stunned THANK YOU for support that feels like a global hug & obviously left me tweetless XO

Indeed, Olbermann and MSNBC may have awoken to realize the impressive dedication Olbermann’s fans have, as a great many, including Lt. Dan Choi, promised to boycott the network until the host returned. Even Olbermann’s protege, Rachel Maddow, had some strong words for her network bosses.
