Washington Governor Christine Gregoire, who successfully shepherded a same-sex marriage bill into law in her state early this year, says that President Barack Obama days after she signed the bill into law, secretly told her how proud he was of her and “we will ensure equality.”
Gregoire herself was able to sway her legislature by describing her personal evolution to the side of marriage equality. Her statement here shows the President had made his evolution and was looking for the right time to “come out” in support of equality. President Obama told the nation on May 9 that he supports the right of same-sex couples to marry.
“You have no idea how proud I am of you,” Gregoire says Obama told her, secretly. “Thank you for what you’ve done, history will be on our side, we will ensure equality in the United States, congratulations, and thank you.”
NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, posted this video today, without context. No doubt they see it as evil, as some indictment. It is not. Rather, it is further proof that President Obama supports the LGBT community and always has.
Last month, in an offensively James O’Keefe style, NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, uploaded a selectively edited copy of portions of Michelle Obama‘s DNC speech that made it sound like the First Lady was advocating that same-sex marriage should be the new American dream for all Americans, effectively insinuating Obama is advocating all Americans should want to enter into a same-sex marriage.
One year ago, the Obama White House published a list of 37 accomplishments President Obama has made for LGBT Americans. That list is far more extensive now.
