Obama’s Breadcrumbs

But there’s another type of danger: The danger of believing that what’s given will lead to more.

This is Barack Obama’s stock in trade. President Obama has shown us how he operates, time and time again. Stall, capitulate, and at the last hour, give folks a taste of what they want. I call it, “Breadcrumbs.”

What did Obama do when we were up in arms about Rick Warren? He gave us Gene Robinson. A nice choice, but not in the headline slot. Adding Robinson was an afterthought. A breadcrumb.

In June, when the roar from the LGBTQ community was so loud the DNC fundraiser was in jeopardy, what did Obama do? He magically bestowed federal benefits upon the same-sex partners of federal employees. Well, kind of. Not important ones, like healthcare. He gave them breadcrumbs.

And when all that wasn’t enough, President Obama gave us a little more. He gave our leaders a cocktail party, and said, “Welcome to your White House.” I’d call that breadcrumbs, too.

So be very careful this weekend. President Obama will be speaking at the HRC dinner on Saturday. Judy Shepard will be there. The president will no doubt promise us some more of what is rightfully ours to begin with.

Don’t fall for it.

Don’t go to the March on Sunday all excited because Obama said he’s going to do something else for us.
