Obama On Weiner: “If It Was Me, I Would Resign.”

President Obama said he would resign if he were Anthony Weiner. In an interview airing Tuesday, the President tells NBC’s Ann Curry, “Ultimately there’s going to be a decision for him and his constituents. I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign.”

“Because public service is exactly that, it’s a service to the public,” the President says to Curry. “And when you get to the point where, because of various personal distractions, you can’t serve as effectively as you need to at the time when people are worrying about jobs and their mortgages and paying the bills, then you should probably step back.”

On Saturday, the embattled Anthony Weiner (D-NY) announced, through a spokesperson, he was taking a leave of absence and checking into a facility, presumably for sex addiction.

Weiner’s announcement on Saturday came just 90 minutes after statements issued by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the chair of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) who both called on Weiner to resign his seat.
