President Obama today, speaking to reporters about Hurricane Sandy from the White House, said “our number one priority is to make sure we are saving lives,” and that the “election will take care of itself next week.”
President Obama urged Americans to follow the direction of state and local government authorities, and not create scenarios that would require additional strain on first responders.
“I want to thank all state and federal teams that are in place, I’m confident that we’re ready,” President Obama said, adding, “we will get through this.”
The president did not bring up the election, but as he was concluding, he was asked by a reporter.
“I am not worried at this point about the affect on the election, I’m worried about the impact on families and the impact on first responders, I’m worried about the impact on our economy, and on transportation. The election will take care of itself next week.
“Our number one priority is to make sure we are saving lives,” the President said.
