NY Senator: ‘Governor Insulted Catholics With Gay Marriage Bill’, Calls For Resignation

NY Senator: ‘Governor Insulted Catholics With Gay Marriage Bill’, Calls For Resignation. State Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr. Thursday held a meeting at the Christian Community Neighborhood Church to protest Governor David Paterson’s announcement earlier that day that he was introducing a gay marriage bill. The Senator said, “The Governor is being disrespectful to the new Catholic Archbishop Timothy Dolan and to every Catholic in New York City…” Diaz also said, “If I were Governor Paterson, I would abstain from going to St. Patrick’s Cathedral for the welcoming ceremony and to celebrate Mass.”

Diaz is calling for Governor Paterson to resign, saying,

“…during the month of May, we will bring out thousands and thousands of Hispanic evangelical christians in the city of New York to ask Governor Paterson to step aside.”

Diaz is a Pentecostal minister, who in the past has been “critical of the city hosting the Gay Games, claiming that doing so would lead to an increase in AIDS cases and to wider acceptance of homosexuality by young people.”

The question here really is, is Diaz a state legislator representing all of his Bronx, NY constituents, or a religious leader on the state’s payroll? Additionally, why is Diaz concerned only with Christian religions? What about his constituents who are Jewish? Or, agnostic? He needs to be confronted with these questions once and for all.
