NY Senator, Gay Marriage Turncoat, Convicted Criminal Monserrate Will Serve No Time

New York State Senator Hiram Monserrate, best known for his misdemeanor assault conviction, will not serve any jail time. He was accused of accused of slashing his girlfriend’s face with a broken glass during an argument.

Monserrate also is known for helping to cause this summer’s Senate coup, ceding his power to Republicans. Most recently, however, Monserrate is known for voting against Wednesday’s gay marriage bill, after repeatedly voicing his support of the bill.

He will retain his seat now that there will be no jail sentence.
