NY Senator Espada Sued By Cuomo, Accused Of Looting $14 Million

NY State Senator Pedro Espada is being sued by New York state’s Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, for allegedly diverting $14 million to himself, his campaign, friends, and family, from Espada’s Bronx clinic. After years of allegations and investigations into Espada’s campaign finance activity, including his repeated refusal to file campaign finance records, Cuomo has finally taken action against the Senator.

Nineteen current and former officials of Espada’s Comprehensive Community Development Corp. — known locally as Soundview — are also named in the lawsuit.

Cuomo says Espada diverted charitable assets to himself, relatives, friends and for his political operation.

Soundview is a government-funded operation owned by Espada.

Freshman Senator Espada, you will remember, (along with convicted criminal and now former Senator Hiram Monserrate) was responsible for the coup in the New York State Senate last summer, which shut down the Senate for one month, costing the state and cities millions of dollars, and effectively derailing the momentum toward gay marriage in the state.
