NY Same-Sex Marriage: Diaz Invites Archbishop To Anti-Gay Hate Rally
New York State Senator and Reverend Rubén DÃaz, the only Democrat to vote against Governor Cuomo’s same-sex marriage bill that was signed into law last month, has publicly invited the Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, and the Bishop of Brooklyn, Nicholas DiMarzio, to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) sponsored anti-gay hate rally — and same-sex weddings protest — July 24, the day same-sex marriage becomes legal.
Diaz, who last week in “Unashamed To Be A Christian,” wrote , “I wear my vote as a badge of honor,” stood by idly while a fellow pastor called for genocide against gays at Diaz’s New York City anti-gay hate rally — held purposely on the same day as the New York City AIDS walk.
Diaz also lied about Archbishop Dolan’s comments, which is par for the course, because he also falsely accused NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg of lying that marriage equality is a civil right, and Diaz allowed NOM to lie about his comments. It’s like there’s a big circle jerk of lying going on in right wing anti-gay religious New York politics.
What’s even more interesting is that we know, from an airport phone conversation conveniently, accidentally overheard, that Archbishop Dolan has no intention of joining Maggie Gallagher’s anti-gay hate rally, and New York State Senator and Reverend Rubén DÃaz has said he would not if the Archbishop didn’t either. What changed his mind?
Diaz is running for reelection…
Here’s the letter to Dolan and DiMarzio, straight from New York State Senator and Reverend Rubén DÃaz’s website, the one asking for campaign contributions…
(One has to ask if Diaz’s “peaceful and prayerful rally” will include calls for the killing of gays, just like the last NOM/Diaz rally did?)
July 13, 2011  Archbishop Timothy Dolan Archdiocese of New York 1011 First Avenue New York, New York 10022 Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio 310 Prospect Park West Dear Archbishop Dolan and Bishop DiMarzio:In the great spirit of interfaith unity, I invite you to join me and my fellow ministers on Sunday, July 24th at 3PM at a March for Marriage that has been organized by the National Organization for Marriage to be held outside Governor Andrew Cuomo’s midtown office at 633 Third Avenue. Our peaceful and prayerful rally will protest the redefinition of marriage and demand that all New Yorkers have the right to vote on this very serious social issue. You know that I have tremendous respect for you and I am most hopeful that you and your fellow bishops and clergy will join us on the 24th. Respectfully, Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz |
