NY Marriage Equality: It Doesn’t Get Any Closer Than 1 Vote And 1 Day – Do This Now

In the next one day, New Yorkers need to convince at least one New York State Senator that voting for marriage equality is the right thing to do. It’s going to be hard, because the ones we ned to convince are Republicans. But there is hope. You. You are our hope.

We expect a vote on the same-sex marriage bill on Friday. Monday is the deadline, as the Senate will be out of session after that.

If you live in New York, I urge you to contact your Senator — regardless of their stated position — and tell them why voting for the marriage equality bill is important to you. If you’re not sure, talk about the 42,600 same-sex couples in New York, and talk about the 7,200 same-sex couples in New York who are raising about 14,000 children. Just talk. Call these Senators in particular and urge them — politely — to vote for marriage equality.

It literally is down to one day, one vote and you.

Note: New York lawmakers opposed to this bill have been citing what they feel is harassment from pro-equality supporters as a reason to not vote for this. So, your polite urging is important. Yell, scream, call them names will not help, and might hurt.

Call Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (518-455-3171 or 516-766-8383) and urge him — politely — to bring the marriage equality bill to a vote.
