Brian Brown, president of NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, yesterday sent yet another fear-mongering fundraising email threatening that if “people of faith” don’t donate to NOM, “gay ‘marriage’ will be imposed as the law of the land for all of us.”

Apparently, the anti-marriage equality movement isn’t doing very well. Perhaps President Obama’s support of same-sex marriage in May threw a wrench in NOM’s works. Perhaps the consistent federal court case decisions in favor of marriage equality are causing trouble over at Anti-Gay HQ. Or perhaps NOM and other anti-gay organizations are just accepting the fact that every single major national poll over the past two years has found that the majority or plurality of Americans support the right of same-sex couples to marry.
Regardless, clearly Brian Brown is nervous.
“I need to update you with some distressing news. As I write this update from Tampa, in preparation for the 2012 GOP convention, it appears our fight to defend marriage this fall will be even tougher than we anticipated,” Brown whines. Which is rather amusing, since just one day before, Brown was strutting around like a peacock, all proud of himself for how he mistreated Dan Savage and Dan’s family while a guest in Dan’s home.
Here’s (literally!) the money quote from Brian Brown’s email yesterday:
Bottom line: if people of faith don’t immediately stand up to match the homosexual lobby’s money, gay “marriage” will be imposed as the law of the land for all of us. We can win this fight but not unless Christians and marriage supporters step up their contributions right now.
So please read my email below to support our action plan with an immediate contribution. I’m counting on your urgently needed support as this fight is bigger than even we originally thought.

It’s very clear, ever since Maggie Gallagher divorced herself from the National Organization For Marriage, that the NOM leadership has taken a huge turn right, and landed in the gutter. It isn’t pretty, but that’s where Brian Brown and his boss, John Eastman, apparently are the most-comfortable.
Gone are Maggie’s attempts to frame the marriage “debate” as an intelligent exercise. In its place, sheer and utter ugly hate speech and attempts to appeal to the most base instincts of their base of non-cognitive, non-elites.
Yes, by all means, people of faith (the vast majority of whom, by the way, support same-sex marriage!), please, donate to NOM. Throw your money to the wind.
