NOM’s Brian Brown Debates Freedom To Marry’s Eldridge On DOMA And Obama

Brian Brown, the president of NOM, the National Organization for Marriage, spoke last week on Fox News about President Obama’s decision to no longer defend DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act) in court. Taking the other side was Freedom To Marry’s Sean Eldridge, who did an excellent job combatting, with facts, Brown’s hysterical rantings, and yes, lies, like, “The executive branch has an obligation to vigorously defend the laws passed by Congress,” and, “The Obama administration is now not living up to its duty to defend the law.”

For the record, the administration has an obligation to enforce the law, which it is continuing to do. It does not have the obligation to defend it in court, which it has announced it no longer will do, because the law, according to the DOJ, the president, and two federal judges, is unconstitutional.

If you ask me, Brown sounds like he’s another GOP candidate about to throw his hat into the ring and run for president.

Brown uses the same old, tired and incorrect parable about only a mother and a father can love or raise a child. Even the Fox News anchor lies about the APA studies, which Eldridge eloquently dismisses.

You’ll notice that NOM posted this video and edited out the end, in which Eldridge has the last, and effective, word. I’ve been trying for days to get a copy of this video since I saw it on Fox. It appears this is the only one online. If you locate a full copy, let me know and I’ll publish it here.

Typical.

Note: An earlier version of this post inaccurately stated NOM, the National Organization for Marriage, was a certified hate group.
