NOM Joins ‘National Eat At Chick-Fil-A Day’ — ‘Neutral’ Demand Ditched?

NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, today announced it is joining Mike Huckabee‘s “National Eat At Chick-Fil-A Day,” to support the $4.5 billion Christian fast-food giant under scrutiny by LGBT organizations and equality allies for its anti-gay policies. Recently, Chick-Fil-A president and COO Dan Cathy said he was “guilty as charged” for attacking same-sex marriage and suggesting gay people don’t have families. NOM has strenuously demanded corporations hold a “neutral” position about same-sex marriage, stating there is “a strong business case to be made for staying neutral on marriage. The fact is that a corporation should not take a position on a controversial social issue that has nothing to do with the business in which the corporation is engaged.” One could call this move hypocritical, publicly advocating for a corporation that has gone extremely far from “neural,” and effectively an end to NOM’s position demanding “neutrality — a false concept to begin with — in the national debate.

Falsely claiming NOM’s previous boycotting campaigns against Starbucks and General Mills — created because those companies publicly announced support for same-sex marriage and civil rights for gay people — have been successful, NOM president Brian Brown today via a fundraising email essentially announced that the National Organization For Marriage is not at all interested in its own demand that corporations should remain “neutral” in the country’s debate on same-sex marriage and civil rights for all.

“Thanks to your recent efforts at DumpStarbucks.com and DumpGeneralMills.com, we’ve shown the cultural elite, the gay millionaires who fund anti-marriage initiatives, and the biased media that the defenders of marriage are willing to put our money where our mouth is.”

Brown, a former Connecticut resident who likes to dangle his Oxford University master’s degree and UCLA C.Phil, is — in addition to his five-year tenure at the well-funded National Organization For Marriage — the owner of ActRight, a fundraising clearing house for conservatives, which apparently allows Brown to personally profit from each of the donations ordinary citizens make to NOM and a host of other politicos and “non-profits” through ActRight.

Brown’s fundraising email reads:

Imagine if folks all across the country united together in support of heroes like Dan and Truett Cathy that stand for strengthening marriage and family!

Imagine the potential impact of the message that companies favoring the radical redefinition of marriage risk fallout with their customers—combined with the message that heroes who stand for marriage and family cannot be silenced!

Imagine how clearly that message would be heard across the nation if Chick-fil-A reported record sales this Wednesday!

Well, let’s not just imagine it—let’s make it happen.

On his radio show this week, Mike Huckabee called on his listeners to support the principled stand of the Cathy family by making this coming Wednesday (July 25th) “National Eat at Chick-fil-A Day.”

Please join me this Wednesday in supporting this courageous company, while at the same time sending a powerful message of support to every individual and every company with the courage to stand for marriage.

Visit your local Chick-fil-A restaurant for lunch or dinner on Wednesday. Better yet— stop and tell the manager that you’re there to honor and respect the integrity, faith and courage of Dan Cathy and the Cathy family.

Show your support! Eat Mor Chikin!

Faithfully,

Brian S. Brown
President
National Organization for Marriage

Yesterday, Brown, in a separate fundraising email, claimed the “cultural elite and gay marriage billionaires are sitting fat and happy” — creating a huge rhetorical net worth drop for the “gay millionaires who fund anti-marriage initiatives” he wrote of in today’s fundraising email.

Stay tuned. We’ll explain Brown’s class warfare email from yesterday, and Mike Huckabee’s attack on gays — that suggests all homosexuals are pedophiles — in another article shortly.
