NOM, the National Organization For Marriage today was hacked. So the hackers — who have yet to reveal themselves — took over the NOM blog, the NOM Facebook page, and the NOM Twitter account. Rumor has it the NOM Twitter account no is under the control of someone other than the hacker(s) but we don’t know. As you can see, above, the NOM Twitter account has been greatly improved.
“In the last couple of weeks you’ve heard some pretty bad things about this organization. I must admit that we were angered when our in house documents were released but we’ve since had time to reflect on the strategies we’ve employed to divide Americans against each other on the issue of marriage,” the NOM website very early this morning read. Alas, it was not for real.
No doubt NOM will take advantage of the hacking to attack radical radical homosexual activists who want to stifle free speech, and try to use this incident as a “get out of jail free card,” suggesting that their rampant race-baiting and divisive tactics (all of them, Brian, not just one “line”) are nothing comported to this lawlessness. Or, you know, something equally ridiculous.
It didn’t take long — just a few hours — for NOM to “fix” the hacking. As of this writing, the NOM blog, the main NOM website, and the NOM Facebook page are all back to their version of “normal,” aka, 100% bigoted and hate-filled. The NOMtweets official Twitter account apparently is not under NOM’s control as of now. The “bio” reads, “New Options for Marriage supports full civil equality for all LGBT Americans!”
Curiously, NOM decided today to go ahead and endorse Mitt Romney anyway. And no, that has nothing to do with the hacking. Go figure.

Pam Spaulding noted earlier today, “The web site is now ‘down for maintenance.’ We’ll see if Brian Brown can get his hate machine’s act together before we can enjoy much more of this,” and points to Phil Reese’s lengthy piece at The Washington Blade.Â

Though this could be the result of an industrious hacker, if the posts are not actually the words of NOM, they could be the result of another staff defector. In April 2011, Louis Marinelli, who guided NOM’s social media presence to that point, abruptly turned on the organization and deleted its Twitter and Facebook presence in the process. He later came forward to profess he’d lost faith in the organization and that — after meeting and having real conversations with real same-sex couples — had come to support same-sex marriage.
And Joe.My.God. labeled it “a SPECTACULAR hack.”
“NOM spokeswoman Elizabeth Ray confirmed to The Huffington Post that the group was hacked and that they were dealing with the situation,” Amanda Terkel noted in, “National Organization For Marriage Website Hacked On Same Day Group Endorses Mitt Romney.”
