NOM Exposed By LGBT Blogger For Promoting Claim Gays Are ‘Lethal’

In a shocking and revealing exposé, LGBT blogger and activist Jeremy Hooper says NOM, the National Organization For Marriage is promoting claims that gay people are “lethal,” homosexuality is more dangerous than cigarette smoking, homosexuality is a “sin that is self-destructive,” claiming “the wages of sins is death,” and the LGBT community has “a radical agenda that is destroying America.” The comments come from recordings of videos made by Liberty Counsel attorney Matt Barber, and Brian Camenker, founder of a Southern Poverty Law Center-certified anti-gay hate group, Mass Resistance, which were produced by Kara Young, a member of the Tea Party, and “a Catholic, 100% pro-life, pro-family, pro-religious freedom Republican potentially running for Lt. Governor in Rhode Island for 2014,” according to her Facebook page.

Hooper, founder of the Good As You blog, and author of If It’s A Choice, My Zygote Chose Balls, notes the videos, which were posted to NOM’s new site focused on battling same-sex marriage in Rhode Island — the latest marriage equality battleground — “could not be more anti-gay.” He adds they “are not just anti–marriage equality—these are proudly anti-LGBT videos that denigrate us in every single way imaginable. These videos are from the most extreme fringe of this debate. They would make even some outspoken conservatives blush.”

As is often the case, after Hooper’s exposé, published to the Human Rights Campaign’s “NOM Exposed” blog, the videos and all related materials were scrubbed from the site — but Hooper has copies, and the videos themselves still exist — for now — on YouTube, so you can watch them below.

This first video spends several minutes attacking Dan Savage — granted, using his own words — but wrongly framing his work, including the It Gets Better Project, then becomes a self-serving advertisement for Kara Young.

Curiously, Kara Young’s Facebook page lists her as both ‘engaged to Christopher Young,” and, in her info, married to Christopher F. Young.

Part two focuses on Matt Barber and Tony Perkins, head of the certified anti-gay hate group, Family Research Council.

Here are some screenshots from Kara Young’s videos, in case they disappear:

Finally, here’s the remaining video, a 60-second spot that falsely claims Rhode Island same-sex couples already have the same rights as married heterosexual couples.

Our thanks to Jeremy Hooper for his consistently excellent work, and the Human Rights Campaign, for providing him the platform to expose the anti-gay hate of the National Organization For Marriage.
