NOM: ‘Americans remain strongly in favor of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.’

Brian Brown, president of NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, just stated, “Americans remain strongly in favor of marriage as the union of one man and one woman.”

Brown, facing a massive defeat that spanned the nation, and probably worrying about his job, has decided to ignore reality — including decisions in four states yesterday and three years of polls that say the majority of Americans support marriage equality.

“Our opponents and some in the media will attempt to portray the election results as a changing point in how Americans view gay marriage, but that is not the case,” Brown writes in a statement.

Yes, keep telling yourself that, Brian.

Your old boss, Maggie Gallagher, sure is also trying to spin it.

“Real America” didn’t vote for same-sex marriage, just those who showed up: “The Obama electorate.”

“Real America,” in Gallagher’s eyes, and in Brown’s stayed home.

“Americans remain strongly in favor of marriage as the union of one man and one woman,” Brown continues. “The election results reflect the political and funding advantages our opponents enjoyed in these very liberal states.”

Yes, the very liberal states of Washington, Maryland, Maine, and Minnesota.

Minnesota, where they have already banned same-sex marriage, just wanted to ensure “activist judges” could not undo the law so they tried to force it into their constitution. Minnesota, home to an anti-gay hate group so anti-gay they still insist on calling HIV/AIDS, “GRIDS.” Minnesota, home to the Michele Bachmann and a “suicide contagion area” known as the Anoka-Hennepin school district.

“Liberal” Maine, where just three years ago, voters elected to rescind a same-sex marriage law. “Liberal” Maine, whose Republican governor, Paul LePage, is so anti-union and anti-worker he used state funds to remove a mural of the history of the state’s labor movement that lined the walls of the Department of Labor offices because it was “not in keeping with the department’s pro-business goals.” That “liberal” Maine.

Or “liberal” Maryland, where a Democratic lawmaker fought tooth and nail against the same-sex marriage bill. Maryland Delegate Emmett C. Burns used his office and even went out of state to fight NFL players who support marriage equality. “Liberal” Maryland, where just days ago, a pastor announced NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his $250,000 contribution to support same-sex marriage in Maryland were responsible for Hurricane Sandy hitting New York City. Sandy, which killed over 113 Americans. That “liberal” Maryland.

And the very “liberal” Washington, where the radical right got same-sex marriage on the ballot faster than you can say, “gay marriage.”

Please.

“We knew long ago that we faced a difficult political landscape with the four marriage battles occurring in four of the deepest-blue states in America,” Brown added.

Preposterous.

“Despite the fact that NOM was able to contribute a record amount to the campaigns (over $5.5 million), we were still heavily outspent, by a margin of at least four-to-one.”

“Four-to-one”? Really? Because Maggie Gallagher just claimed “eight-to-one.” Someone’s fibbing.

The point is that every state has liberal and conservative voters. Some more, some less, but as anti-gay hate ages out of America, the Brian Browns of the world will become smaller and smaller, desperate and more desperate.
