National Equality March Packing List

So! You’re getting ready for this weekend’s National Equality March in D.C.? Good for you!

Here are a few last minute items that are essential to ensuring your trip is a success. Make sure you bring them with you!

  • Memories of growing up gay. Remember that secret you held so close in your heart? The one that told you you were different and if anyone found out you thought you might die? Bring that with you. Know that equality will enable countless millions of children to never have to feel that way some day.
  • Rage. Think of all the lies and hatred spewed by the GOP. Think of Virginia Foxx’s Matthew Shepard bashing the day the House debated the Hate Crimes bill – that has yet to be signed into law. Think of Rep. Louie Gohmert’s endless eruption this week on the House floor. He invoked Hitler, bestiality, necrophilia, and pedophilia in his opposition to the Hate Crimes bill and to repealing DADT.
  • Cautious Disbelief. Saturday night, in typical Obama fashion, our president will speak at the HRC’s annual dinner. He will try to get ahead of the curve. Judy Shepard will be there. He has to address the Hate Crimes bill. He has to make promises. Be careful. Don’t believe everything you hear. He has made many promises to us. And he knows that he can string us along. Words matter. Actions matter more. Hear his words. believe his actions.
  • Love. Because, at the end of the day, love, and the right to love, is what we’re really fighting for.
