MSNBC Pulls A Romney On Romney, Runs O’Keefe-Like Edited Video

In what is a shockingly disappointing act of journalism malpractice, MSNBC joined the ranks of Fox News yesterday when they ran a selectively edited video of Mitt Romney which had the result of making the GOP presidential candidate seem out of touch with modern day life. In fact, thanks to the Breitbart/James O’Keefe-like editing, the MSNBC video misrepresented the comments Romney made — much like the candidate did in his first campaign video, when they ran a spot that showed President Obama saying if he talks about the economy he’s going to lose. In that video, Obama was quoting John McCain.

Politico notes Andrea Mitchell, who first aired the video, will address it on her 1:00 PM ET show today. That’s a sign of journalistic integrity you’ll never, ever see on Fox.

UPDATE: 1:02 PM — Mitchell addressed the issue at the top of her show, but disappointingly, did not properly provide before and after context of the clip they showed yesterday, just the “after.”

The juvenile, radical right wing blog Sooper Mexican broke the story:

His speech begins at about 40 seconds in:

“By the way, where do you get your hoagies here, do you get them at WAWAs?… Well I want to a place today called WAWAs, have you ever been to WAWAs? I know some people haven’t…. We went to WAWAs and it was instructive to me,because I saw the difference between the private sector and the governmental sector. People who work in government are good people and I respect what they do, but you see, the challenge with government is that it doesn’t have competition.”

“So we find ways to do things better or we lose jobs to each other.”

He goes into a story about how an optometrist has to send in 33 pages of pages. The Atlantic described it as:

Romney on the stump, at a historic iron furnace in Cornwall, near Lebanon, using the hoagie-ordering experience at the WaWa as a parable for what’s right and wrong in America. (Wrong: a doctor told him that he had to fill out a 33-page change-of-address form, several times, to get the post office to send his mail — including reimbursement checks — to his new location. That is what happens with government-run organizations where you have “no competition.” Right: at WaWa, great hoagies. Also, very efficient touch-pad ordering system. This is what you get with competition.)

Mitt continues in the video at about 2:45:

“And then I was at a WAWAs and ordered a sandwich… you have a touchtone keypad, and you touch that, touch this, go pay the cashier, there’s your sandwich. It’s amazing!”

This is where the media cut the video to distort the truth. GOTCHA, you slimy little maggots!!

“People in the private sector have learned to compete and it’s time to bring some competition to the Federal Government and to get it smaller, and have them respond to the customers, which are YOU!!”

Will they correct this? NO. Doesn’t fit into their plan to destroy any Republican running for office.

You’ll have to forgive the hysteria from the right wing blogger.

Or not.

Of course, when it comes to misrepresentation and just plain lying, Fox News is king. Like when Fox News ‘Misrepresented’ Its Own Gay Marriage Poll.

Like when Fox News reported that President Barack Obama’s new campaign video that previews his new slogan, “Forward,” has “historical ties to Marxism, Socialism.”

Like  when a Fox affiliate in Orlando, Florida ran a story online and on air about Neo-Nazis but titled the piece, “Civil rights group patrolling Sanford.”

Like when Fox News contributor Sandy Rios said that America’s embrace of Ellen DeGeneres will bring “the complete eradication of the traditional family.”

Like when Fox News’ Andrea Tantaros said on “The Five,” that Barack Obama’s State of the Union speech will be a “very divisive, very evil” speech.

Like when Fox News’s Eric Bolling didn’t like the comments a spokesperson for an atheist group was making, and kicked him off the show.
