Mrs. John McCain Teams Up With NoH8 Campaign, Accusing Her Husband Of Bullying
UPDATE: Um, actually, no, she just “refudiated” her support, so, scratch this…
Cindy McCain, wife of the formerly-maverick-y Senator John McCain has reprised her family-feud-frenzy photos with the NoH8 Campaign, this time going for video. In “An Anti-Bullying Message From the NOH8 Campaign,” McCain (Mrs., not Senator,) joins with celebrities like Tom Bergeron, Gene Simmons, Dr. Drew, Dave Navarro, and others to let kids know, “It Gets Better.”
For her part, McCain states, “Our political and religious leaders tell LGBT youth that they have no future. They can’t serve our country openly,” to which her friends add, “What’s worse, these laws that legislate discrimination teach bullies that what they’re doing is acceptable.” McCain ends with, “Our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens, why shouldn’t they?”
Wow. I’ll admit, in January, when Cindy McCain posed for NoH8, and I wrote, “If The Republican Almost-First Lady Can Support Marriage Equality, Why Can’t Michelle Obama?,” I was a little skeptical of the almost-First Lady’s motivations and sincerity, but no longer. Piling on top of the already multiple “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” survey leaks, a ruling of “unconstitutional” by a federal court, and her husband’s arch nemesis claiming to want to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” you have to say, standing up for what she believes, against her bigoted and Christian Coalition-dependent husband’s anti-gay, anti-equality stance, that Cindy McCain sure has chutzpah!
