Moscow Mayor Calls Homosexuality Satanic, Bans Gay Pride Parades, Says They Spread AIDS
Those who are angered at the passage of Proposition 8 have to take a step back and be grateful they don’t live in Moscow under the rule of 72-year old Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, who, as reported in Gay Wired today,Â
“announced on Thursday that he will continue to stand firm on his ban of gay rights parades in Russia’s capitol city. Luzhkov, who has been a staunch opponent of gay rights in recent years, has called homosexuality “satanic†in the past and instructed Moscow’s City Hall to consistently reject requests to permit events that might draw attention to gay rights-related issues.”
“Among the other reasons Mr. Luzhkov cited for his decision to ban gay pride events in Moscow is his belief that such events “could become one of the factors for the spread of HIV.””
