Mormon Church Role In Passing Prop 8 Under State Investigation

If you’re upset about the vast role the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints had in the passage of California’s Proposition 8, the ballot initiative that amended that state’s constitution to ban gay marriage, you’re not alone. Fred Karger, the head of Californians Against Hate, has requested California’s Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) to investigate how much the Moron Church invested in the passage of Prop 8. At question is the full value of the church’s efforts and financial support. It is estimated that the Church’s members donated over $20 million, but the Church’s activities also included web, print, and direct mail advertising, telephone solicitations and direct voter contact, including door-to-door multi-scripted canvassing, transportation, strategic support, and other methods that enabled the iniative to pass on a 52% to 48% margin.

AmericaBlog reports:

Karger, however, sees the fact that FPPC is moving forward as a good sign. He said his political attorney told him the commission looks into fewer than 5 percent of complaints, an indication in his mind that “when they do it, it’s pretty serious.”
