Maine House To Debate Gay Marriage Bill Tuesday. Fresh off of Friday’s 20 – 15 pasage of a gay marriage bill in the Senate, Maine’s House is preparing to debate the gay marriage bill tomorrow. Participants are cautiously optimistic. Should the bill pass, it will head over to Governor John Baldacci’s desk. The governor, although publicly opposed to same-sex marriage, has been said to be keeping an open mind.
Maine residents are almost evenly split on gay marriage, with one poll showing 47% in favor, 49% opposed, within the margin of error.
