Macy’s Gets 650,000 Petitions And A Protest After Refusing To ‘Dump Trump’

Over 650,000 people have signed a petition asking Macy’s (NYSE:M) to dump Donald Trump after the Birther King and real estate magnate called for a “revolution” when Barack Obama was re-elected. Angelo Carusone, a highly-successful activist who was directly responsible for helping Fox News realize it was time to dump Glenn Beck and for helping free Clear Channel Radio of over one hundred Rush Limbaugh advertisers, is behind this movement as well.

After releasing details of his negotiations with Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren, whom Carusone gave plenty of time and reasons why the “world’s largest store” should refuse to continue selling Trump’s made in China merchandise — especially after Trump repeatedly lambasted President Obama over his China foreign policy — Carusone today delivered the petitions and staged a protest at Macy’s Herald Square headquarters.

(Even today, despite that he makes his products in China Trump wrote, “The Chinese are robbing us blind.”)

Carusone’s petition — which you can still sign — notes:

Donald Trump engages in especially unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior. He has:

– Long engaged in sexist behavior. Trump has a long record of personally attacking women he disagrees by calling them “unattractive,” ugly or fat. He once sent a target a personal note telling her that she has the “face of a dog.” Not even his own daughter is immune to Trump’s sexism. While referring to his daughter, Trump observed: “She does have a very nice figure…if [she] weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her.”

– Hypocritically complained about jobs being shipped overseas to China, despite the fact that almost his entire clothing line sold at Macy’s is made in China and other Asian nations.

– Use his public platform to deny the reality of climate change. Following Hurricane Sandy, Trump publicly declared: “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.”

– Perpetuated the racially charged birther conspiracy, repeatedly arguing that President Obama has been lying and was not born in the United States.

The list goes on. But the point remains, Macy’s should dump Trump.

Macy’s boasts about its social responsibility policy, which reads: “There is no shortage of talk about the obligation of public companies to be socially responsible to the people and communities where they do business. At Macy’s, Inc., we hold those same beliefs – along with a belief that actions speak louder than words when it comes to helping tackle some of the toughest problems facing us today.”

Indeed Macy’s. Actions speak louder than words. So, act and dump Trump.

In an interview with NBC’s The Grio, Carusone said:

When that birther video came out, that’s what got me frustrated. That was sort of a final straw. But the real reason why I started [the petition] was that I’d come across a letter from Macy’s CEO to Donald Trump from August 23rd. In it, he concludes by saying, “Don’t give up the real estate business yet, but we are developing a meaningful fashion business with your brand.”

And I thought about that because, to me, Donald Trump’s brand is really mean-spirited bullying in order to inject himself in the media cycle for self-promotion. So it seemed very odd to me that a company like Macy’s, which has a counter brand to that, would build a business on top of it.

Where we’ll really start to see the movement is when the people that have signed the petition — and this has already started to happen — are canceling their [Macy’s] credit card accounts. I also think we’ll see people just not going there and shopping. And the one thing to keep in mind is there’s more than [650,000] people that have signed the petition, but that I think is only a small fraction of the number of disappointed customers. There are plenty of people that just don’t sign petitions and there are people who don’t really use the Internet or the computer.
